We are pleased to announce the launch of the new e-book developed within the framework of the ACADE-ME project – Accelerating Capabilities Against Anti-Gypsyism and Discriminations in Education: “Research Analysis and Fieldwork”, a fundamental resource that explores the manifestations of anti-Gypsyism in education in Slovenia, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Republic of Serbia. This publication provides an updated and detailed overview of educational issues related to the discrimination of Roma students, with the aim of raising awareness and training educators, professionals, and members of Roma communities to become agents of change.
Content of the E-Book
This publication gathers six national reports—one for each partner country (Slovenia, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Republic of Serbia)—along with a comparative analysis report. The objective of these reports is to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the manifestations of anti-Gypsyism in education. The reports explore the direct experiences of Roma communities, analyzing field data and presenting a summary of the educational policies implemented in each country to combat discrimination.
Each national report is available in the official languages of the involved countries, along with an additional synthesis report in English that offers an overview of common issues and the responses adopted. The comparative analysis also provides insights for improving educational policies at the European level, highlighting best practices and the challenges still to be addressed.
The e-book we are presenting today represents a fundamental step toward raising awareness, training, and taking concrete action against the discrimination of Roma people in education. It is not just an analytical document but also a practical tool for those working in social integration and education, offering resources, recommendations, and best practices that can be adopted at local and national levels.
The inclusion of Roma communities, as reaffirmed in the new EU Roma Strategic Framework 2020-2030, is a key priority in building a fairer and more inclusive society. The ACADE-ME project, with its e-book “Research Analysis and Fieldwork”, provides an essential contribution to raising awareness, educating, and driving change in educational and social policies. It marks an important step toward a future where education becomes a universal right, accessible to all, and a powerful tool in the fight against discrimination.
The objectives of the ACADE-ME project
The ACADE-ME project aims to achieve several strategic objectives to strengthen the inclusion of Roma populations, particularly in the field of education. These objectives are central to addressing discrimination and promoting equality, placing education at the heart of social integration:
- Access to knowledge and awareness: Increase awareness of the impact of anti-Gypsyism in education, particularly among educators and social integration actors, through the collection and dissemination of data and information.
- Training of educators and professionals: Develop comprehensive educational materials to combat the discrimination of Roma students and enhance the skills of at least 300 educators and professionals working in community centers and local services for Roma integration.
- Empowerment of Roma communities: Strengthen the capacities of at least 180 Roma graduates, with a special focus on women, to promote the creation of six national academic clubs for Roma women who will serve as ambassadors against anti-Gypsyism.
- Education for young Roma: Raise awareness among Roma communities and broader society about the importance of education for the social integration of young Roma, making education a key tool for emancipation and inclusion.
- Creation of positive narratives: Support 60 Roma graduates, particularly women, in creating and disseminating positive stories that challenge stereotypes and promote positive change within Roma communities, helping to overcome prejudices.
